Busy Busy Busy

My morning got off to a slower than usual start. Now I'm lagging.

Be back tomorrow.

Also, not ashamed to admit that I am crazy excited to go to a sneak preview of SATC the Movie tonight.

Jus sayin'....

Miss Pia

Ok. I know she is my friend and all but...Leah's photo a day amazes me every time.

It is one of my favorite things ever. Especially when she updates.

Gripes...this will only take a moment.

Pescatarian: Used to describe those who abstain from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of fish. Although the word is not commonly used and a pescatarian is not technically a vegetarian, more and more people are adopting this kind of diet, usually for health reasons or as a stepping stone to a fully vegetarian diet.

This is one of my overly anal, irrational irritants.

If you eat fish you are NOT a vegetarian. There is a whole different name for what you are.

It even sounds cool.

Thank you. I am done.

(Hey look! Finally a way to walk our pet fish.)

Alela Diane Take 2

There are some albums that I always return to. Alela Diane's Pirate Gospel is one. It is folky, smart, cozy and perfect for grey rainy Portland days. Let me tell you, there have been a lot of them these days.

She did a show last spring in Portland at the funky church where they made homemade cookies and listened to her sing. See! Cozy.

I posted here take away show in February.

So on this rainy, grey Portland day I sit here listening to Alela Diane trying to finish a paper.

You can download The Rifle from her myspace.

...And 4 other songs from her Daytrotter Session here.

Then grab a blanket, warm socks and cuddle on the couch with a luvie and tea.

Hello Cute!

Delia*s has a way of doing a sneak attack with the cute. Like this eyelet dress.

It is crazy cheap and hella cute.

Way to go Delia*s.

Pictures

I have an artist friend that I e-mail pictures back and forth to. Usually without notes or explanation. This was in my inbox today.

That is a good use of zebra print and totally ridiculous.

Lazy Dazy Breakie

Photobucket

Arugula. Potato Pancakes. Coddled Eggs. Fresh Basil.

Yumm.

Yea for (sort of) days off.

BluBlockers

Sissy face was up here for the weekend. It was great. She brought with her these sunglasses called blublockers. They are weird. They take the blue out of things. She got them for bay to breakers as a joke and now wears them all the time. She said that once she wore them for about 6 hours straight while driving and her eyes were all messed up after.

She says they changed her life. And can change yours too. Here is the proof. See what happened when my mom tried blublockers for the first time:

The transformation is amazing.

Update:

Gavin sent me a link to this YouTube video of a blublocker's rap. Is there like a whole blublockers subculture I just don't even know about? I mean there is a dude rapping about them on YouTube. In more than one video. Seriously.

Holy Balls

These will be mine in 7-10 days.

I almost peed my pants when I saw them.

Busy Music Week

This has been a big show week for me. First Dizzee. Tonight M83. Tomorrow Loch Lomond. Sunday Beirut. (Cute Website) Monday Sabertooth.

And I'm done.

I think I still have a plus one to Loch Lomond. If anyone is interested contact me. I would love to have the company.

Picnic

Leah and I have been obsessed with picnic paraphernalia. Baskets, blankets, those great bamboo utensils.

These lunch boxes would be great with the tin red metal 'basket.'

Oooh. Just thinking of the fun and great food is getting me excited for the sun to come out again.

I'm thinking: Pea falafel sandwiches with preserved lemons and marinated feta. Maybe some strawberry tartlets.

Who is in?

Liam Devowsky

Photobucket

I just pre-ordered the 2nd edition of this Zine.

Described as "15 pages of 70s-inspired graphical sadness."

I don't know how I feel about graphical sadness yet.

But if it includes more pages like "& ampersad" i'm in.

Plus, he made an animated gif. I LOVE animated gifs!

Ewww.

This makes me feel icky.

I think we all already know how I feel about the Dov.

It can all pretty much be summed up by:
American Apparel Will Make You Look Like a Fat Hooker

And, umm...is that a press(?) photo of him?

Gross.

Conversations...

Jess: My training bras aren't fitting me anymore.
Kel: Maybe you are hormonal.
Jess: Maybe I like a boy. My boobs get bigger, my waist smaller, butt bigger. You know all the good lady pieces emerge.
Kel: I don't think that is what I meant.
Jess: I also get prettier, smarter, faster and more agile.
Kel: Umm, what?
Jess: And I can levitate.
Kel: We should harness this and market it.
Jess: Ok, All I have to do is spit in your mouth and you'll have the same power.
Kel: Gross. You are seriously like a trucker in a ballerina body. But a smart one. Like a dick businessman trucker with a master's degree in a ballerina body.

I love it! Trucker in a ballerina body! T-shirts will be made.

Emily Katz

I met local designer Emily Katz last night. She was really sweet, cool, funny...you know an all around awesome lady. She is a friend of a friend that I was out with. (Way too late yet again.)

She gave me her new catalog for Fall 2008. I'm in love, love, love with the wish dress. It is a wispy, carnelian colored, silk dress that is screaming my name like a siren. (No really, it is. I couldn't sleep at all last night because of it.)

So check out her radness here, here, & here.

Gladiators

I got my haircut on Monday and my hairdresser Kammie and I were chatting about how we both really, really, really, REALLY want a pair of gladiator sandals for the summer.

I love all of these looks.

industrial , with heels , dainty , colorful & traditional

Indeed.

A thing of beauty via: clouds & monsters

Tired. So tired.

I have recently started running around acting like i'm 19 again. What does that mean you ask?

Going to parties broken up by cops, procrastinating on school work, drinking wine straight from the bottle, napping in the afternoon, hanging out with boys until 4:00 am...

You get the picture.

So in line with my mood I give you one of my favorite blogs. Cute Things Falling Asleep.

Because after all, when today is done, my waste of space self will probably only have accomplished working out, eating, sleeping and getting beverages with friends later tonight.

Yea for a momentary regression.

Dizzee Rascal

Show tonight at Berbati's.

Who's going?

I had a great deal of fun at his last show maybe 3 years ago. There was a lot of dancing and sissy face was with us.

Sweet, sweet memories.

Adam Arnold

I drive past the show room of Adam Arnold about 2x a week.

There are beautiful things in the windows but no web updates for his Spring '08 line.

It has totally been bumming me out.

Here are some looks from the spring fashion shows.

Read about it on Ultra. And please update your site!

Music Monday.

For no good reason...except for the fact that it is Fabulous!

Bizarre Love Triangle - New Order.

and for the more sentimental out there.
(this takes me back to freshman year of h.s.)

Bizarre Love Triangle - Frente!

Can't get it out of my head.

Weekend past.

I had a fabulous weekend. Fabulous.

Top ten highs from the weekend.

1.) Plant shopping with Cacye.
2.) New outfits including a much needed new mini. Railroad striped! That fits!
3.) Bicycle gangs calling leah and I lasses and little asses.
4.) Impromptu dinner at Navarre. And staying within our budget. Mmmm Navarre.
5.) Popping wheelies with paper cars. Then lighting them "on fire."
6.) Art openings.
7.) Learning how to do night exposures with my camera. It works!
8.) Obama.
9.) Birthday parties and staying up past 4:30am without realizing it is that late.
10.) Walking to the farmer's market and getting ramps, rabe, leeks and asparagus.

Ok, 2 more:

11.) Beautiful sunshine.
12.) Friends. I love my friends.

The cutest thing I ever did see.

Too much candy from Capucha on Vimeo.

Ok, I have a soft spot for french speaking toddlers.

This is too cute for three reasons:

1.) Her name is Capucine.
2.) She is eating many a lollipop and hiding under a desk.
3.) Her mom is in cahoots with her.

Cuter than kittens.

Good Wife.

I saw this marital chart on my friend Jared's blog and had to repost it. It is very inline with my Emily Post fascination.

It also made me laugh out loud. I don't wear red nail polish and I can carry a good conversation but sadly, I cannot play an instrument and I will put my cold feet on you. You can spare the warmth. It is called sharing.

Esther Coombs

I have a tea cup collection and have been fascinated by the remixes that have been happening with old-ish bone china. I first saw this trend in Elle Decour in 2005. At that time it was fancy plates painted with pixelated pin-ups.

These teacups from Esther Coombs are pretty. Not quite pin up quality but you know...

Pasta Primavera

I posted a Unique Eggbeater update this morning. It is a recipe for a delicious Pasta Primavera. I cannot stop eating it.

I am a gluten free girl so I use brown rice pasta but you can use any you like. It is listed as vegan but you can add pecorino at the end if you like.

This is the perfect time of year to find all the fabulous fresh veggies at your local farmer's market. Take advantage of it and make the recipe this weekend.

You won't regret it.

Trashy Deluxe

I found this local company yesterday.

I really want a necklace that says "Bossy" and layer it with the knife necklace.

That would be pretty hot.

I wonder if they could make a bossy one...

YouTube Land.

It happened again. I started innocently enough looking up and old 90s rap video and that started my slow decline into YouTube submission. I was there for about an hour and a half watching c-walk videos and battles.

I must say, it was pretty amazing. It makes me smile when you see a trickle up of trends. A dance movement that started as a way to spell out gang-related symbols and images, with your feet, in 1970s Compton has evolved to something of next generation break dancing.

There are little video battles and rebuttles between two particular kids Gosu and Kyren. Little tutorials. Kids. Love stories. Groups. Pretty much everything you can imagine.

My favorite part is how they dust their shoes off at the beginning and end of each dance.

And of course the hipster kids that don't want to miss out on a trend. I think they spelled out 'ipod' and 'p-town' with their feet. (Ok, they are kinda cute.)

Up next Krumping....

Conversations.

Jess and Kel: Whoa Leah, you are here on a Wednesday!
Leah: Shit it's Wednesday?! I didn't think about it.
Jess and Kel: Tehe.
Leah: I'm bad at life.

CocoRosie

Pitchfork just posted a stream to their new single God Has a Voice, She Speaks Through Me.

Just like everything else CocoRosie (with the exception of anything Prada fueled) I'm a big fan.

Can't wait for their next album.

Gantry Cranes and Container Ships

I was feeling a little under the weather last night after a ridiculously busy day. I decided to youtube search my favorite things in the world! Gantry cranes and container ships.

I also remembered a video compilation Peripheral Produce called "From Tugboats to Polar Bears". There was this whole video on tug boats which was filmed at ports on the west coast. I thought I was gonna die. It was so fantastic. That compilation also includes another favorite of mine titled "The Subconscious Art of Graffiti Removal" which is narrated by Miranda July (the early years) if I remember correctly.

Oddly enough, you can netflix it too.

Anywho...Here are my favorites.

Sneaks

Someone never grew out of their Jack Purcell phase.

These would be perfect to wear on my way to ballet and pilates.

I'm in love.

Philip Lim 3.1

We all love Philip Lim 3.1 blah blah blah.

But honestly, I think these outfits were made for me. I have a strong urge to stay inside all weekend, sewing and recreating some of these looks for myself.

Happy Day!

I was looking out my kitchen window towards the big blackberry bush yesterday thinking "Wow I didn't know that blackberries flowered like that."

Then I thought a little bit more and was like "They don't! Those look like lilacs."

Lilacs can also be known as my favorite flower ever.

I ran outside, smelled the cone shaped clusters of tiny purple blossoms and to my glee they were lilacs! Then I did some light pruning and placed them all around my house.

What an amazing and wonderful find.

Happy day!

The Hood Internet vs Lykke Li

Two of my favorite things coming together as one in what may be perfect harmony. Could also be a total disaster.

I'm not one for getting my hopes up or expectations in general.

You can download like 6 mashups. R.A.D.

Oh and for all you locals, she is at the Doug Fir on the 16th.

More Plates

Can't kick it. I found these on etsy from Baily Doesn't Bark.

A bag for biking.

All my purses are clutches, satchels or handbags. This is problematic for bike riding.

I'm on the hunt for something cute that I can sling across my body for my day-2-day rides.

I like these styles from hayden-harnett.

I need a lower price point though. Anyone have any suggestions?

someecards

I saw someecards site awhile back and completly forgot to post about it. Then I went to send a card to someone.

A thank you.

So, yes. Thanks for being a job reference despite what you know.

Roger Ballen

PICA is presenting a lecture by photographer Roger Ballen tonight.

I must say, I have been looking forward to this for weeks. His show is up at Quality Pictures through June.

Read about it all here.

Chair Love

I am IN LOVE with this chair from Atuto.

Doesn't look comfortable but i'm a form-over-function kinda girl.

Google SketchUp

Have you seen this?

I am going to try to do my apartment tonight. I haven't had the desire to use a 3d program since my trying experience with auto-cad in 2000 as an apparel design student. (The problem with that statement, and there are so many, no apparel designer uses cad and I took it with the mechanical engineering students at OSU instead of cute fun design girls. We cad-ed cars and tires and semi's and the boys loved it. I. did. not.)

But way cool that there is a free download for a 3d drawing program at everyone's fingertips.

Mix Give Away

I create mixes for everything. Doing the dishes, getting ready in the morning, running errands, flower arranging, sitting on the stoop eating quinoa in the sunshine....and they are named à la même chose.

For day-2-day I make my morning, noon and night mixes. Aaaand I listen to them morning, noon and night. (How predictable.)

Anywho, I just created my spring mixes and they are good. So good I want to share them with all the lovelies out there in blogland.

If you would like a mix e-mail me and let me know which one. Send along your name and address and I will get it out to you.

The first 3 to e-mail will get all three. Only because I am feeling extra generous on this lazy day of mine.

Happy listening my dears.

xoxo

E-mail me!

(Ok, so this was my really, really, really exciting news. It isn't that exciting I know. But hey, everyone loves a mixtape!)

Emily Forgot.

I'm on a plate kick apparently. Well, I'm always on a plate kick. Dishware is my first love.

I really like this line from Emily Forgot.

House of Spy

The sun is out again and always it makes me want to wear pretty dresses.

I found House of Spy this weekend and am particularly fond of this and this.

Although, I am not super fond of the model's expressions. Someone should tell her to fix her face.
