Hey Leah!

Like this...but different.

Fame

Screw Lost. What happened to shows like Fame?

I guess in this age of reality we have "So You Think You Can Dance" and "Dancing with the Stars."

I prefer Leroy. Just sayin'.

Early Red Havens

They're ready! Sauvie Island Farms you pick.

Fresh from the tree to your mouth. Nothing sweeter.

Might have to go this weekend.

CAUSE ME PAIN HEDI SLIMANE

I went through a phase 4 years ago where I was absolutely obsessed with Hedi Slimane and his gorgeous skinny suits for Dior. This was also the time that I was infatuated with the band Phoenix and Pete Doherty. Both embody his fashion influence on the indie rock scene and at the time were styled on many occasions by Slimane himself.

Full circle.

I always love when you can see the full spectrum of an artist. Like, he is known for his fashion designs but let's be honest, what artist is only interested in area of design. He has been focusing on exhibiting his works in group shows since leaving dior last summer.

Love. Love.

27

Favorite picture from my birthday.

Taken by the fabulous DJ Bunny Ears.

Wordle

Heartthrobs wordle.

I didn't know I used Barbie so much. I think this needs to be looked into.

But I do 'like' a lot of things.

This is fun.

Lolita

I recently started reading Lolita. I didn't know if I could get into it at all but after the 2nd paragraph I was hooked.

She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita.

Hooked!

Website of the week

Julian Louie.

Like a book. Just click a chapter and open it up to see the beautiful dresses.
(Although, it doesn't actually work like that. Little glitch-y. Nice concept though.)

I like books. I like dresses.

Turning 27.

Tomorrow is my birthday. I will turn 27.

When I was little all of my Barbies were 27. At six, that is what I considered the 'put together age.' Barbie had a cute boyfriend who bought her shoes. She had an awesome job in NYC working at an ad agency and shared a one bedroom apartment with her older sister. Barbie and her sister had a huge walk in closet and side-by-side twin beds! (So exciting.)

I have a few of those things covered but have let go of that whole put together thing. My idealism has changed.

Tomorrow I am looking forward to
•Getting breakfast at Broder.
•Going berry picking at Sauvies.
•Wearing my new dress and shoes to get drinks with friends.
•Riding bikes (maybe).
•My picnic on Sunday

I feel like I'm forgetting something....

Oh yeah, welcoming in a new year. I feel like it will be a good one.

I have this great friend Carissa. Almost daily she will link me to interesting things she has found online. I decided that I will just post Carissa's findings to share with all of you too!

Let's start with this video she linked me to of New York street artist Joshua Allen Harris.

I love it to pieces.

Dear Inner City Snail,

Your life must be so hard.

Let's Run Away

Let's run away to Central America.

I don't actually want to go to there but I want to stay in this house.

Then we can read books. You can read something smart about history or current events, i'll read Lolita.

You can tell me all your new facts over dinner.

We can make sangria, listen to Louis Prima and walk around in our swimsuits...even in the rain. Especially in the rain!

All. Day. Long.

Let's...

Desk-y

I love this desk from Berlin-based designer Martin Holzapfel.

It wins prizes.

And makes me want to redefine my apartment-style.

Bon Iver Daytrotter Session

Ch-Ch-Check it out.

I always enjoy Daytrotter sessions. Mmm. Yes I do!

Office Pets

Sometimes.

When I'm working.
Alone.
At my desk.
For hours on end...
I imagine things around me coming to life.

I guess others do too.

Linsey Ann

Leah did a photo shoot yesterday of our friend Linsey Ann's designs. JP and I were lucky enough to model for it.

It was ridiculously fun. Linsey is getting set to launch her own line in Portland and this is a teaser of what is to come.

She is crazy talented and I'm stoked for her to start selling her line.

I cannot wait to see what she comes up with.

P.S. Leah did an amazing job. AMAZING!

Website of the week

The flash on the home page of enfant terrible kills me.

It is the cutest thing I have ever seen!

The french infused phrases scattered throughout the site are a great detail too.

Like:

"sacre bleu! it seems there aren't anymore!"

and

"ooh lá lá – your cart is empty!"

Love Birds

One of my bestest friends is getting married this weekend.

Along with my sister's best friend from h.s.

And some other best friends....

In spirit of these forever unions I will offer a love poem.

(Barf.)

But I feel it is more fitting than what I really want to post. Again.
(Cacye already has demerits. She warms her cold toes on Topher. Ooooh!)

So love forever, happily ever after, blah blah blah.

To khaki wacky and tophy toes. . .Your babies will be cute.

Words on Feeling Safe
by George Elliot

Oh the comfort of feeling safe
with a person;
having neither to weigh thoughts,
nor measure words,
but to pour them all out
just as chaff and grain together,
knowing that a faithful hand
will take and sift them,
keeping what is worth keeping
and with a breath of kindness,
blow the rest away.

Oh and one last thing:

Summer Berry Pavlova

I had an impromptu dessert party last night for about 6 friends. I made a Summer Berry Pavlova out of the berries I picked earlier at Sauvie's Island.

It kinda made for a perfect day.

Check out the recipe on Unique Eggbeater.

Heart

I had a super fun time finding common phrases with "heart" in 'em for my new header.

Here' are some of my favorites.

Do you have any? Bonus points if you can link to an 80's music video.

heart is set on
heart misses a beat
heart of gold
heart of stone
heart of the matter
heart on one's sleeve
heart's content
two of hearts
lonely heart
heart to heart
cold hearted
break someone's heart
change of heart
cross my heart
open your heart
get to the heart of
heart failure
heavy heart
heartbreaker
pour one's heart out
set one's heart on
steal someone's heart (heart thief!)
warm the cockles of one's heart
young at heart.
heart and soul

Alyson
adds:
tell it to my heart
hungry heart

Sarah adds:
cold hands, warm heart
heart in my throat
eat your heart out
the heart of darkness
be still my heart
young hearts run free

Tammy adds:
hearts on fire

Which reminded me of one of my favorite songs this year. and a video with a beautiful man.
hearts on fire

Framed

I love this look. I was thinking about trying to find old frames to paint today and then stumbled upon this image. I think it is a sign. Now I have to.

I have no idea where I can put them though.

Also totally love that small desk. And stool.

Hooray.

I love, love, love it!

FOR SISSY.

I think this is the last year that you are socially allowed to throw up in bars before it becomes a problem.

Depending on who you ask.
(Some say 25)

Happy Birthday.

Umm. Yes Please.

Women & Guns

I stumbled upon the photo series Women & Guns from Amy Stein.

There are a bunch of small town American nuances that I miss living in Portland. Like hunting.

This is land of the vegan.

I think the last time I heard someone talking about going hunting I was at OSU and the guy was from Prineville or something. For an added bonus, I couldn't really understand what he was saying because he had a huge wad of chew in his cheek.

Anywho....Ch-Ch-Check it out.

Let's Run Away

And move to a mid sized city like Albuquerque, Charlotte or Milwaukie...or stay right where we are in Portland.

We can find an empty space and fill it with wood, plastic and back lit molding.

I'll knit socks and skid on the floor. Make vanilla bean ice cream and tuilles.

You make the espresso.

We'll listen to Beach House and Stereolab.

On summer evenings we'll open all the windows and doors and let the breeze in and fall asleep under only a sheet.

Let's.

Abandoned Pools

Absence of Water

In the Thirties London's outdoor lidos were at the peak of their popularity.
Gradually tastes have changed, resulting in a drop in attendances,
leaving the pools uneconomical to run.
Many fell into decay and many were demolished.
Only a handful of pools remain today as a symbol of a bygone era.
