Ms. Kalman
Everything is refreshing through Maira Kalman's eyes.
Including every aspect of her trip to the inauguration.
Rest stops and all.
Thank you.

Faux-paper
I have been interested in changing my living room and bedroom a bit. I was thinking of wallpaper for one of them.
Then I thought of the process of hanging, in the future removing and for a moment became a little wiser. I'm not going to do all that work.
While searching through the wallpaper samples in Domino's website (RIP), I came upon the genius idea of stenciling. Not the cheese-y 90's border varieties but something complicated and elegant. Like these beautiful feathers.

L'Âge D'or
I watched L'Âge D'or, a 1930 Luis Buñuel film last night. It was co-written with Salvador Dali.
The premise is that a couple completely in love wants to consummate their relationship but they are foiled by their families, the church and the bourgeoisie.
Grab a bottle of wine, some friends and have an enlightening night filled with surrealist film!

Goodbye, Dear friend....
...until we meet again.
Domino is done.
I'll have to find something new to do with my extra two hours each month.

Couture + Dior
I think I might have peed myself a little when I saw Dior's '09 couture line.
80 craftsman + 400 hours = one galliano gown
Beautiful!

Postal Co. Notebooks
My friend Linsey showed me her gorgeous Postalco notebook this morning over coffee.
Canvas cover. Primary Colors. Modestly printed graph paper with the tiniest grid...
I'm in love. You can find them in Portland and online at Canoe.
Pendelton + Opening Ceremony
Opening Ceremony and Oregon's own Pendelton are collaborating on a line for men and women. We should see the goods in August.
I can't beileve I heard about this from the Mercury before Alyson. (Whom works there....)
Nice collab. Can't wait.

Clothes Pins
One of my roomies likes leaving patterns in the yard with my clothes pins. Sometimes they make a circle on the clothes line. Sometimes they are clipped onto my pruned rose bushes.
After seeing the clothes pin work of Kate Torgersen I know that he should be trying harder. I'm no longer impressed.

Small Spaces
There has been a lot of talk around here of living in unsavory conditions. Dirt floors, small spaces, no internet etc...
I could live in this small space. I love the creativity that stems from uncomfortable situations.
Accordion walls, 24 rooms in s 344 sq ft space.

Beachy Time
Went to the beach this weekend and guess what...It was gorgeous!
It was about 65 degrees and sunny. No joke.
The sunsets were great. There were 1,000s of stars out.
We made risotto cakes and drank wine.
Went for an epic walk.
Ate ice cream.
Chased shadows.
Made fun of dog people.
You know. Normal beach things.

Monopoly!
No one will ever play with me. Maybe it has something to do with my deal making savvy. Like offering amnesty and rent control for alliances. But all deals are off if I sell.
I'm in love with this monopoly redesign by designer Andy Mangold.
Maybe I can trick people into playing with pretty things.

Emily Katz
My friend Emily Katz posted her most recent shots for her Spring '09 line. She did the shoot in December at my beau's family farm. So beautiful.
She also makes a mean pie crust.
The photog was the talented fashion photographer Josh Elliot. (Beau's roomie. Gah, Portland is too small and incestuous.) Remember him from this fabulous ultrapdx shoot?
You can find her stuff locally at Seaplane and online at her Etsy. That lovely lavender skirt is available at Anthropologie now.

Castellers
Every summer in Catalonia, Spain, teams of “Castellers” can be seen competing against each other to see who can build the highest human tower.
I love how much camaraderie and team work it takes to build on tower. That, coupled the inclusion of old and young makes these scenes idyllic. At least to me.
