Couples That Look Like Siblings
I started a new blog Couples That Look Like Siblings.
They are everywhere!
If you have any images send them to me likealike (at) gmail (dot) com.
Laughter
One of my favorite Radio Lab episodes ever.
There is something really romantic about the introductory recording from the 1950s.

The Happiest Book In The World.
After the weeks I have had I could use a book like this.
That way, when my cat breaks my computer, or someone tries to break into my house in the middle of the night, or a large paycheck bounces I can open it up to a random page and be like:
"Oh! Cute swimming duck family! Everything will be okay."

My Life as A Smoker
I don't smoke. But I love this audio slideshow narrated by a a 65 year smoker.
It makes me slightly uncomfortable to see images of athletes and children smoking given today's social stance on tobacco use.
It makes me wonder what it is that we consider to be normal and everyday now that future generations will view as an unnecessary health hazard.
I especially love the men smoking while competing in the tour de france.

Taffeta
I am having a love affair with Tafetta.
Sure it is gaudy. (I give you that.)
I know it was the fabric that composed every fancy dress your mom made you wear between 1987-1992.
For some strange reason it seems to only comes in plaid...
And it makes funny sounds when you move. Even slightly.
None of these things scare me.
It looks structured and classic so long as it isn't paired with velveteen.
I want to make a gorgeous skirt out of it and wear it everyday. Or every other.
Apparently, I am not alone.
Mint Julep Cups
Carissa reminded me of these fabulous little cups last night as we made fried okra, hush puppies and talked about mint julep's.
I feel like they are going to inspire a follow up party of fried green tomatoes, black eye pea fritters and mint juleps.
Maybe I'll have to order a few for the sake of authenticity...

MacForce Dude: How can I help you.
Me: Well, My most expensive cat ever knocked a glass of water on my laptop and killed it.
MacForce Dude: UH OH! Well with water damage we send the computers to Apple and it is a flat $850 fee. Might be less depending on what they find but there is no way of knowing.
Me: Really!?! I mean, a new laptop at the student rate is $999 and I get a free iPod touch that seems like a no brainer.
MacForce Dude: Yep. I know.
Me: Do you guys have roof access here?
MacForce Dude: Huh? Roof access? I don't think so. Why?
Me: Well I feel like at least we could chuck the lap top off the roof and watch it splat. Or something.
MacForce Dude: You know, I have always wanted to do that.... We might have a slingshot.
Me: I don't think I have enough upper body strength to get the sort of trajectory and destruction I'm looking for. Maybe I could use that on my cat though.
MacForce Dude: Ha. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Me: That's fine. I'm going to go cry now. Have a good day!
Shitty, Shitty, Expensive Kitty!
So, Sorry (Carissa) for the lack of posts. I'll be up and running when I get my new computer.
(I would have done an animated gif with a montage of all the happy moments I shared with my macbook in the two years we were together if all my pictures weren't on my non-functional computer. Instead there is a picture of happier times of jumping in waves last weekend at the beach. C'est La Vie!)

Let's Run Away...
And go camping. Again.
We can find a swimming hole. Where the water is warm.
Or at least warmish.
Let's dine on pan fried trout with hazelnuts & summer-y cherry tomatoes...Drink out of metal canteens.
Play cards & listen to Harvest Moon under a Harvest Moon.
Before bed, zip our sleeping bags together, name constellations and cuddle the entire night.
Lets....
Bowerbirds.
They opened for Bon Iver in NYC.
They won over the entire Dr. Bott office.
I have had them on repeat for a week.
Earthy. Sprightly. Ramshackle.
Bittersweet.
Meet the Bowerbirds.
